Intuitive handling thanks to clear design elements
Battery-powered vacuum cleaner design is exciting and challenging. Because compared to mains-powered vacuum cleaners, they have special requirements.
From a design perspective, the focus of the appearance was on the combination of form and function.

The requirements for the product:
- intuitive operation
- clear division of components
- minimal storage space
- clear, dynamic lines
The SILVERCREST stick vacuum cleaner has an integrated handheld vacuum cleaner. The challenge was therefore, among other things, to combine two devices in one form while ensuring perfect function. Aspects of manufacturing and logistics also played a decisive role in the development of the concept.

The shape of the handheld vacuum cleaner decisively defines the dimensions of the stick vacuum cleaner. The battery unit and dust container must be placed in the removable handheld vacuum cleaner. The “heart” of the device is particularly showcased by the dynamic lines of the ventilation elements. The technical unit symbolizes the power, speed and mobility of the vacuum cleaner.
The contrasting color scheme of the housing parts guides the user in operation. The handheld vacuum cleaner is formally integrated into the shape of the device, but is visually differentiated by the white dividing line. The dust container and package area of the handpiece differ in color. This clearly indicates to the user where the dust container is removed in order to empty it. All switches, release buttons and the movable joint are marked by silver-colored components. These contrasts make areas of action stand out better. LEDs allow the user to see whether the device has sufficient battery power. If the LED color changes to red, the vacuum cleaner must be charged in the charging station.

We have met the requirement for the device to be as small as possible by installing a joint in the middle of the handle. This kinematics allows the suction handle to be folded in, which can save more than a third of the height. This reduced vertical footprint not only benefits the end user — logistics and retail also benefit from saving transport and storage space.
